چکیده

Vitreomacular traction (VMT) is a multicategory entity that may cause substantial visual loss due to the formation of a macular hole or traction-induced tissue distortion. We report a remarkable case of spontaneous resolution of VMT in a 76-year-old caucasian female who presented a reduction visual acuity in one eye and a macular hole stage IV with margins edema in the other eye. The patient denied any treatment and was followed over time with optical coherence tomography (OCT) which showed the evolution of the vitreomacular adhesion and then the subsequent spontaneous detachment with a complete visual acuity recovery. Therefore the therapeutic decision must be guided from the evaluation of the visual acuity, fundus appearance and OCT performed over time. This case report demonstrates how the same macular traction has led to two different outcomes in the two eyes at different times and ways; not always the course of an eye is the same in the other eye.

Macular hole formation and spontaneous closure after vitrectomy for vitreomacular traction documented in spectral-domain optical coherence tomography

BACKGROUND We present a case of a macular hole formation and its spontaneous closure after vitrectomy for vitreomacular traction. To our knowledge, it is the first description of spontaneous closure of the macular hole after vitrectomy for vitreomacular traction. CASE PRESENTATION A 78-year-old woman presented decreased visual acuity and metamorphopsia in the right eye due to vitreomacular tr...

Spontaneous resolution of vitreomacular traction associated with diabetic macular edema.

PURPOSE Little information is available about the natural history of vitreomacular traction (VMT) associated with diabetic macular edema. A few cases of spontaneous resolution of VMT associated with diabetic macular edema have been described, but have not been documented by optical coherence tomography (OCT). The authors report the spontaneous resolution of VMT associated with diabetic macular ...

Spontaneous closure of macular hole.

We report a case of spontaneous closure of stage-II macular hole. A 66 years old lady presented with decreased vision in her left eye for the last 3 months. Her vision was 6/18 in right eye and finger counting at 3 feet in left eye. Optical coherence tomography showed stage-II macular hole in left eye. There was attachment of vitreous at the edge of the hole. Minimal hole diameter was 119 μ. Ma...

Spontaneous Closure of a Full°Thickness Macular Hole Associated with Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy and Persistent Vitreomacular Traction

Diabetic retinopathy worsens the prognosis of macular holes compared to those of idiopathic etiology. While spontaneous closure of idiopathic macular holes is a well-documented phenomenon, spontaneous closure of macular holes associated with proliferative diabetic retinopathy is rare. We report a case of spontaneous closure of a macular hole associated with proliferative diabetic retinopathy an...

Transient visual loss and delayed resolution of vitreomacular traction after intravitreal ocriplasmin

Vitreomacular traction and vitreomacular traction with macular hole are conditions associated with visual disturbance and decreased visual acuity. Recent studies have demonstrated that ocriplasmin is effective and safe in specific patient groups with vitreomacular traction, and hence is recommended as a treatment option. We present here a case report of a patient treated with intravitreal ocrip...
